Using A Rise And Recline Chair

Using a rise and recline chair is very straightforward and it isn't difficult to get to grips with one. One thing to consider before you actually buy a chair is where you are going to put it. The reason for this is that they need to be near a power supply to work. Although you can always use an extension lead you may not want to have leads lying about the floor.

Remember when positioning the chair not to have it to close to a wall. There should be enough space for it to recline fully. Rise and recline chairs are heavy and therefore not very manoeuvrable so take time to select the right place to put it so that you don't need to move it again.

All the functions on a rise and recline chair are operated by a handset that is attached to the chair so if you drop it you won't have too far to look for it. To operate the chair you need to apply a constant pressure on the button you want. If at any time you stop pressing the button the chair will stop moving.

The number of buttons on the handset will depend on what type of chair you've bought. The simplest chairs may only have two buttons. This is because there is only one motor to drive both the movement of the chair back and the footrest at the same time. One button will move the chair into an upright position, the other will lower it down.

The more expensive models have two motors. This allows the chair back and footrest to be moved entirely independently of each other. This of course means more buttons. If you've chosen a top of the range model with extras like massage modes and heating pads then they'll be even more buttons. If the chair's user has restricted mobility in their hands then it's best to keep things simple and the buttons large.

An optional extra that is well worth considering is a backup battery. Although some chairs have one built in others don't and you'll need to pay extra to have it added to your chair. The battery will kick in if there is a power cut at any time ensuring that the chair's occupant is not left unable to get up from the rise and recline chair. Once charged the battery should be good for about a year though if it is used it should be recharged again afterwards.

When it comes to getting in and out of a rise and recline chair remember to let the chair do the hard work for you. That's why you bought it.
